Please accept my sincere appreciation for the helicopter netgun capture work that you and Jonathon Rowe recently completed in Montana. I have participated in many capture operations during my 30-year career that involved numerous pilot/gunner teams. Your superb flying skills and knowledge of animal behavior are next to none and Jonathon’s shooting ability completes a first class capture team. Of equal importance are the polite and enthusiastic personalities shared by you and Jonathon that integrate well with the eccentric personalities of the many wildlife biologists that you have worked with in Montana.

Our recent operation successfully captured a combined total of 131 mule deer, bighorn sheep and elk. In 2005, your team captured 277 mule deer, bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Both of these operations were logistically complex involving multiple capture sites spanning the entire state. In each case, you captured animals according to study designs specifying sex and age and distribution of the sample across vast areas of rugged terrain, often under rigorous weather conditions.

As I reflect on your skills as a capture pilot, I think that your attention to the details of the capture design as defined by the local biologist are superior to any other pilot I have worked with.
